Preliminary structural damages at $4.5 million

The Garfield County assessor’s office said the preliminary valuation of structure loss from the Coal Seam fire is $4.5 million.

A final total is pending because estimates are not yet available on a handful of residences.

State Farm Insurance insured 10 of the 24 residences destroyed in the fire, said company spokesperson May Hendershot. The loss, including contents, is $2.8 million.

“We also have 31 smoke damage claims,” Hendershot said. “We have already met one-on-one with the homeowners, and are working with those with smoke damage.”
