Rifle improved to 3-1 in the 3A Western Slope League with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Cedaredge on Wednesday.

The Bears, now owners of a 4-8 overall record, won by scores of 12-2 and 19-7.

On Tuesday, Rifle dropped a slugfest with visiting Delta, 30-20.

The Panthers scored more than five runs in four different innings, holding on for the win.

Rifle had a couple of big frames of its own, putting up eight runs apiece in both the second and third innings.

Getting goals from Sam Carpenter, Dalton Handy and Saulito Vega, Roaring Fork defeated crosstown rival Colorado Rocky Mountain School in boys soccer play on Tuesday.

Tony Landa and Carpenter chipped in with assists as the visiting Rams improved to 3-3 overall.

Roaring Fork was also recently credited with a win for its season-opening game against Basalt back on Sept. 2. The Longhorns fielded two ineligible players in the game and had to forfeit the 5-1 victory.

Due to an incorrect game report submitted to VarVee by Hotchkiss’ coaches, a Sept. 17 brief in the Post Independent stated that Rifle won its first volleyball match of the season over the Bulldogs on Sept. 14.

Hotchkiss actually won the match by scores of 16-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13 and 15-12.
