Second-half goals by Jorge Hernandez and Cesar Ortiz lifted Coal Ridge to a 2-0 boys soccer win at Aspen on Thursday.

It was a rare close game for the Titans, who improved to 10-0 on the season and have outscored opponents by a margin of 45-2.

The Titans host Grand Junction Central in a rare Friday game today at 4 p.m.



Three-second half goals pushed Rifle past host Grand Valley, 4-1, in boys soccer action on Thursday.

Jose Salazar scored in the first half. He added another goal in the second half. Frank Rivas and Julio Aguirre also scored for the Bears, who improved to 3-7.



Saturday’s game, which will be played in Rifle, starts at 11 a.m.

Longhorns hold off Rams

The Basalt soccer team cruised to a 5-1 victory over Roaring Fork in Sept. 2’s season opener.

This time around, the Longhorns had a fight on their hands.

The Longhorns scored twice in the second half and held off a late surge from the host Rams to pull out a physical 3-2 victory – their sixth straight.

Next up for Roaring Fork (4-4) is a visit from Rifle at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Roaring Fork’s volleyball team improved its 3A Western Slope League-leading record to 10-0 with a 25-18, 25-10, 25-8 win over host Rifle on Thursday.

The Rams get a few days off before returning to the court, which they’ll do next Friday at home against Basalt.

Rifle, now 1-12 overall, hosts Cedaredge at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
