Prep Sports Roundup: Smith wins 4A Western Regional boys golf title at Conquistador

Kyler Smith, a senior golfer for Palisade High School, won the 4A Western Regional title at the Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez with a 2-under-par 70 to advance to the 4A state golf tournament Oct. 1-2 at Cobble Creek Golf Course in Montrose.

It was his second straight Class 4A Western Regional boys golf title. He also won at Rifle Creek last year. He was also named first team all-conference at the awards banquet.

Kyler is the son of Dr. Tod Smith and the grandson of Jack and Barbara Smith, all of Rifle.

Aspen and Colorado Rocky Mountain School fought to a 1-all boys soccer draw on Tuesday.

The Oysters led by a goal at halftime, eventually allowing the equalizer in the second half.

CRMS is now 1-1-1 overall.

Rylee Ellsworth had four hits as Eagle Valley muscled past host Grand Valley in softball on Tuesday, 16-2.

The Devils erupted for five runs in the second inning, four in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth.

The Cardinals, now 1-9 overall, scored their two runs in the fourth inning.

Eagle Valley is now 4-8.

Falling behind by two goals at halftime, Glenwood Springs couldn’t recover in a 2-1 boys soccer loss at Palisade on Tuesday.

Mauricio Ocha-Escandon scored the Demons’ lone goal in the 78th minute on an assist from Phelandez Bolitho.

The Demons dropped to 1-4 overall with the defeat.
