BUENA VISTA – Glenwood Springs’ wrestling team pieced together a 3-2 record at Saturday’s Buena Vista Tournament, a duals affair.

The Demons defeated Platte Canyon (48-24), Lake County (54-6) and Bennett (46-28), while losing to Buena Vista (46-36) and Florence (40-36).

Chris Ayala went 5-0 on the day at 160 pounds. Mike Mills was 4-1 at 119.

Last weekend, the Demons placed 10th out of 32 teams at the Middle Park Invitational.

DELTA – Advancing more than half your team to the finals makes for a good day of wrestling by most any team’s standards. That’s what Grand Valley pulled off on Saturday.

The Cardinals had six of 11 wrestlers still standing by the time the championship round rolled around at the Delta Invitational. Two came home with titles.

Ryan Gallegos went 3-0 to claim the 145-pound crown, beating Eagle Valley’s Matt Kottenstette in the title match. Gallegos also bagged the Invite’s outstanding wrestler award.

Tyler Miles also won the 152-pound weight class in Delta, going 3-0.

Jared Tonder (140 pounds), David Witt (160), Kelcey Satterfield (171) and Chris Forney (189 pounds) all lost in the finals. Each went 2-1.
