Prove to us what a nice guy Saddam is

Norman L. Herwick

Dear Editor,

It was predictable that Hal Sundin would get into print with a lengthy diatribe about the Iraq situation in general, and to bash the Bush response in particular. He scoffs at the idea that the Iraqis would use atomic weapons in an aggressive manner because it would lead to their immediate destruction. He has that part right!

What he chooses to ignore is the other components the Iraq government have in their arsenal, namely biological and chemical weapons. How many among us believe that Saddam would not be more than willing to hand off smallpox or anthrax to some of his cohorts to be introduced in this country, especially if it couldn’t be traced to him. If Hal has some privileged insight into what a nice guy Saddam is, he should share it with the rest of us. For my part, all I have to go on is what he has done to his neighbors and even his own people.

America is one of the few countries in which the unloyal are allowed to bash the setting administration; we should rejoice in that. As an afterthought, suppose the government does nothing and we have another attack similar or worse than the Twin Towers, what do you think Hal will be writing about then?
