Public hearing for comments on energy corridors

Federal agencies will host a public hearing Tuesday to gather comments on a draft environmental impact statement proposing to designate energy corridors on federal lands in the American West.Because of legislation passed in 2005, the federal government is proposing to designate corridors on federal land for locating oil, natural gas and hydrogen pipelines and electricity transmission and distribution lines in the West.A hearing to be held at the Courtyard Marriott, 765 Horizon Drive, in Grand Junction on Tuesday will include two sessions. The first one will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and the second will go from 6 to 8 p.m.Comments made at the hearing will be available in real-time webcasts and for later on-demand replay. Information on the webcasts is available at the project website, http://corridoreis.anl.gov. The draft environmental impact statement is available for review at libraries and U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service field offices in 11 western states, and on the website. Anyone who wants to comment may register in advance on the website or may register on-site the day of the hearing.The public may also submit comments in written form to Westwide Corridor DEIS; Argonne National Laboratory; 9700 S. Cass Ave., Bldg. 900, Mail Stop 4; Argonne, IL 60439. Written comments also may be faxed toll free to 1-866-542-5904 or submitted electronically using the e-mail form on the project website. All comments must be received by Feb. 14 to receive full consideration.
