Public invited to Glenwood’s 27th Street Bridge groundbreaking Wednesday
The city of Glenwood Springs will host a groundbreaking event for the 27th Street Bridge replacement project at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The occasion will include kid’s activities, and will be held outside of Rivers Restaurant, 2525 S. Grand Ave.
While the ceremonial groundbreaking will occur Wednesday, actual construction of the new vehicle bridge is slated for early 2019. The new bridge will be built adjacent to the existing bridge and then slid into place, limiting down time for traffic.
Additionally, a new and separate pedestrian bridge will be constructed and all bridge piers will be removed from the Roaring Fork River in an effort to improve the pedestrian and river user experience.
Attendees are encouraged to walk, bike or carpool to the groundbreaking event, as parking is limited in the area.
