Railroaders ready to roll thanks to Alpine Bank

Dear Editor,I want to share with the community the gratitude of the local Western Colorado Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society for a $2,500 grant from Alpine Bank to the chapter’s planned railroad museum in the empty rooms of the railroad station in Glenwood. The rooms are adjacent to the AMTRAK waiting room at the station. The bank’s grant, along with another anonymous grant and other funds, will provide initial working capital to begin restoration of the empty space (originally, the ladies’ waiting room and a baggage room) as a local museum for the area’s strong railroad heritage. The Colorado Midland, Rio Grande, and Crystal River & San Juan roads will be featured, along with related mining and other transportation items. The chapter is planning another day in October of rides on motorized hand-cars (“speeders”) along the abandoned D&RGW track between Glenwood and Carbondale. And its next railroad model show is set for Oct. 26-27 in the Hotel Colorado. Watch for more on these events.Again, our thank Bob Young and Alpine Bank!Burkey MusselmanGlenwood Springs
