Rams advance

Roaring Fork’s soccer team bested 16th-ranked St. Mary’s (7-7-2), 1-0, in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Friday, advancing to the Sweet 16 for the second straight season.

Misael Ramos scored the game’s lone goal, in a matchup of that featured solid defense and a tough possession battle.

“This was more of a possession game,” Rams Coach Aaron Anderson said. “Our plan really came together, we gained the angles and controlled the ball.”

The elated coach noted that the defense was particularly strong on this day.

“Our guys back there, man, they were great today,” he said.

The win earned Roaring Fork (11-3-1) a chance to face off against a familiar foe: The Classical Academy.

The Rams will now battle the top-ranked Titans (15-1-0) on their home turf at 3 p.m. today.

The Colorado Springs-based team beat Roaring Fork on this same field last season in the playoffs, 2-0.

But Anderson believes that his team is ready this time around.

” We’ll be playing them on the same field as last year, when they beat us 2-0,” Anderson said. “But this year, I think we’re ready for them.”
