Ray J. Hammell

Ray J. Hammell died at his home in Rifle on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. He was 66.

Mr. Hammell was born March 1, 1936, in New Jersey, to Harold and Wanda (Kraus) Hammell. He grew up in Riverside, N.J., where he attended high school.

He was a 15-year resident of Rifle, and worked as a mechanic. He previously lived in Boyton Beach, Fla.



He loved hunting, fishing, cooking and was a practical joker. He belonged to the Elks and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by mother Wanda Hammell; daughters Linda C. Hammell and Sherry H. Taylor; sister Bonnie Heaton; grandchildren Jeffrey Venz of New Jersey and Tony Taylor of Colorado; and special friends Carol Frederick, Sue Noble, Jack and Pat Elliott, Jesse Vigil, Nathan Warner and Bob Werner.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Hammell, in 1991.

A potluck memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Rifle Elks Lodge No. 2195, 501 W. 5th St. Elks officers will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the NRA or a charity of choice.

Rifle Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
