Re-1 school board meets in Basalt

BASALT, Colorado – A continued review of the Moving On student placement system and other topics around standards-based education top the agenda, as the Roaring Fork School District Re-1 board of education meets at Basalt High School tonight.

In addition, the board is scheduled to select a consulting firm to guide the search for a new superintendent to replace Judy Haptonstall, following the board’s recent decision to end her contract after the current school year.

Also to be addressed by the board will be a plan for short-term use of the voter-approved mill levy override funds, including a possible one-time stipend for teachers and staff.

The school board recently began rotating its regular meeting sites between the three communities served by the district, Glenwood Springs, Carbondale and Basalt.

Today’s meeting begins at 3:30 p.m. at BHS, 600 Southside Drive, Basalt. The meeting is to include an open forum period for public comments on any school district matters at 3:45 p.m. and again at 8:40 p.m.

The Moving On discussion is in follow-up to a December meeting at which some concerns were raised by school board members about the program’s implementation, especially its impact on teachers’ time.

The full agenda and packet information can be found at the Re-1 district website, http://www.rfsd.k12.co.us.
