Re-1 school renovations to cost about $2M

Roaring Fork School District Re-1 plans to spend about $2 million renovating Glenwood Springs elementary and middle schools over the next year. The money for the renovations is part of the $86 million bond issue Roaring Fork Valley voters approved in November 2004. Re-1 Superintendent Fred Wall said Monday that the renovation of Glenwood Springs Elementary will include repairing and upgrading the school’s entrance steps and its heating and air conditioning and electrical systems. The administration offices will be remodeled and an air conditioning system will be added to the main building. The total budget for the project is $1,246,680. At Glenwood Springs Middle School, Re-1 will spend nearly $745,000 to upgrade the drainage system, improve the entrance to the school, add air conditioning in the computer rooms and media center and add power outlets for computers in all the classrooms. Both projects are slated to be complete by next fall. In other reaches of the district, Wall said most of Re-1’s other construction projects will also be complete by next fall, including the new Basalt Elementary School campus, the remodel of Basalt Middle School, new classrooms at Basalt High School, the Crystal River Elementary School expansion and the new wing at Sopris Elementary School. The new Roaring Fork High School is expected to be complete by December 2006, and the new Glenwood Springs High School is expected to be complete in December 2007.
