Re-1 students head back to school Tuesday, Sept. 2

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Students in Roaring Fork School District Re-1 schools have been relishing these last days of summer vacation as they’ve watched their counterparts at neighboring schools head back to the books before them.
All that’s about to end.
Get ready, kids. Your wait is over.
School starts for Re-1 students Tuesday, Sept. 2 (with the exception of Yampa Mountain High School, which started Aug. 20).
New head o’ the class
Four new principals and assistant principals are kicking off the 2003-04 school year at several schools.
At Glenwood Springs Elementary School, Sonya Hemmen will take over as principal, moving from her assistant principal position at Glenwood Springs High School. David Lindenberg is Glenwood Elementary’s new assistant principal.
Two new assistant principals – Paul Freeman at GSHS and Karen Olson at Basalt Elementary – are also starting new jobs with Re-1.
And at Carbondale Elementary School, Anna DeLay is the new principal.

Open House: 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, with a barbecue and meeting at 7 p.m.
Registration: New students may register on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Other information: Homeroom lists are now posted on the front doors of the school. Students should report to the teacher designated on these lists, who will give them the remainder of their schedule on the first day of school.
Football and volleyball practices began Monday, Aug. 25. All participants need a current physical and proof of insurance. Insurance is available through the school district.
Glenwood Springs High School – 384-5555

Hours: 8:05 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
Open House: A back-to-school night is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4
Registration: Weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; new students should call the counseling office at 384-5559 to make an appointment to see a counselor.
Other information: Football and volleyball practices started Monday, Aug. 25. Participants need a physical and health insurance.
Bridges High School – 384-5995

Hours: The school has a flexible schedule; classes run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Open House: Date to be determined
Registration: Mike Blair has a waiting list for students wanting to attend Bridges, though he’ll always take names. Call him for more information.
Yampa Mountain High School – 945-9463

Hours: School started Aug. 20 at Yampa; classes run from 9:10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Open House: 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25
Registration: Open registration; all students must fill out an application.
