Read the letters and emails in Rifle FB case

Here is most of the correspondence obtained by the Post Independent through the Colorado Open Records Act related to Rifle High School’s football team being placed on restriction by the Colorado High School Activities Association.

Garfield County’s Re-2 School District provided documents on paper. Fort Morgan High School provided four documents electronically via a ZIP file. Two of those were local news reports shared via email that followed up on the PI’s initial stories on CHSAA’s action.

Two other files proved impossible to fully open despite numerous attempts. The readable introduction of one of those two suggested that an attachment included a draft of the letter that Fort Morgan AD Kyle Buhls send to CHSAA alleging misconduct by Rifle. A final version of that was send to Rifle’s principal and was subject to the CORA request.

CHSAA, through a lawyer, asserted that it is exempt from the provision of law requiring disclosure of correspondence.
