In this busy, hurry scurry world, we need to stop and take a deep breath and appreciate this community and the people in it.

We went to the Holly Days Celebration and Parade on Dec. 1. It was truly an event where members of the Rifle area could get together and enjoy the season and each other.

I just wanted to thank the Citizen Telegram staff, their volunteers, the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts and business sponsors for their hard work so we could come together as friends and neighbors and enjoy the evening. It’s so nice to have something in our community that is not all about the bottom line.

It is so important to continue these events and keep the “small town” feeling during the holidays, and to take a moment to care about each other and visit, rather than text them.

Next year, make sure to mark your calendar and come and enjoy the festivity.

The board of directors of the Carbondale Clay Center would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to K Rhynus Cesark and Sarah Moore for their invaluable service as co-directors of the center.

They devoted themselves to the center, bringing their passion, artistic visions and considerable talents. They worked extraordinary hours to realize a lively, nurturing environment for artists and members of the community.

The Clay Center has continued to evolve into a place for learning, sharing and supporting one another in the love of ceramic arts.

The exhibits at the center during the three years of their tenure highlight their artistic vision. They put together a program of gallery exhibits that continued to raise the bar for the ceramic arts in our valley, bringing in work that both challenged and enlightened audiences.

Their focus on extending art into the community produced such wonderful new events as “Pairings,” matching hand-made vessels with locally made beverages. They introduced collaborative shows with local nonprofits, Windwalkers (equine therapy) and CARE (animal rescue). These unexpected “pairings” fostered new relationships in the community and inspired more great art.

As all who drive by the Clay Center can see, the animal totem dramatically illustrates K and Sarah’s devotion to children’s programming. They expanded the class offerings at the center and included mini-workshops designed to make art accessible to everyone.

They cultivated relationships with artists locally and nationally, earning great support for the center, as seen in the incredible cup auction with donated works from some 250 artists. They strengthened the artists-in-residence program, bringing new artistic voices to our community. The board is also deeply grateful for the substantial financial contribution that K and Sarah recently made to this residency program.

The board support K and Sarah in their decision to move on, so they can focus on their individual studio art practices and other professional interests. Please join us in raising a cup (ceramic, of course) and a round of applause for a job well done.

We would like to say a big thank-you to Amy Luetke at the Property Shop for all her hard work and excellent customer service. Amy went above and beyond for us, and we want to tell everyone how great she is. Thank you to Laura for being so helpful and always cheerful.

Also, a big thank-you to Big-O Tires in West Glenwood for fixing a flat for us 30 minutes before our real estate closing. They did an exceptionally quick job, and at no charge to boot. That’s excellent customer service.
