The townspeople of Glenwood Springs came out in force to support the Valley View Hospital Auxiliary at our annual Pie Day during Strawberry Days. When the door opened at 9 a.m. people lined the front of the Methodist Church and around the corner. Their good-natured anticipation created an atmosphere of community that continued as they made their choices and found a seat to enjoy homemade pie.

Longtime residents, who consider themselves “old-Glenwood,” made room at their tables for strangers and the distance between the two factions of our town disappeared. It was wonderful to see our citizens and visitors come together in a common cause: helping the Hospital Auxiliary make money to help people. The $3,200 made at Pie Day will join funds from other projects to go to scholarships in the medical field and to the Connie Delaney Medical Library.

The success of Pie Day would not be possible without our Valley View Hospital Auxiliary volunteers. They arrived early in the morning, delivering 140 home-baked pies to our junior volunteers, who made many trips down the stairs ferrying the luscious goodies. There, more volunteers waited to cut and serve each piece to the hungry crowd.

Pie Day was an experience that reminds us this is still a small town where a common good unites us and neighbors help each other. Thank you for making the effort to help the Valley View Hospital Auxiliary.
