Readers say thanks
October was a busy month for energy awareness!
Solar Energy International (SEI) would like to thank the Maroon Corps for helping us achieve our goal of educating all the fifth graders from Aspen to Carbondale about resource conservation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy. With the help of 12 trained Maroon Corps volunteers, we were able to give 19 presentations while equipping the fifth-grade science teachers with additional renewable energy and efficiency curriculum.
SEI would also like to thank the town of Carbondale for funding a portion of this project, and for supplying all of the Carbondale fifth graders with a Living Wise Kit. These kits promote critical thinking, and they allow the recipients to start making a difference the very same day they receive the kits.
And a final thank you to all of the teachers who participated. We feel privileged to be able to support you in your endeavors to provide quality education to our area youth.
Our current patterns of over-consumption are unsustainable, yet few of us have been educated about how our actions have a direct impact on this planet, what that means for our future, and how we can begin to be a part of the solution. By partnering together, SEI, the Maroon Corps, and the town of Carbondale are striving to give youth the tools they need to make a difference in our energy future.
SEI is currently seeking new funding and new volunteers to help us educate the remaining Garfield County fifth graders in the spring, thereby completing our goal of educating every fifth grader in the valley.
After all, knowledge is power!
