Those in attendance at the 15th annual Amici d’Italia Picnic in the park, whether of Italian ancestry or simply Italians for the day, were blessed with perfect weather, great food and joyous fellowship Aug. 2 at Beltus Park. The event known by some as the “best party in Glenwood Springs,” could not have occurred without the generosity of a few-the Italian Underground Ristorante, Gamba and Associates, Florindo’s, Geno’s Liquor and Alpine Bank in particular. Thanking all who made the picnic possible would be difficult at best, as virtually all in attendance contributed in some way.

Even though the crowd of 400 had long since departed, the celebration of Dolce Vita continued the following day with the announcement that one of the founding Picnic in the Park committee members, Henry Bosco, has been elected to the Colorado Italian-American Hall of Fame. At 86, Hank continues to man a spot on the serving line and serve as the picnic’s unofficial patron. Hank would argue that he has done nothing to deserve the honor; those of us who have worked with him in many different arenas would disagree.

Salute, Hank. See you and many others at the park next year.
