On Dec. 5, the Demon Invitational Speech and Debate Meet was held. Teams from all over the state were invited and eleven schools participated. After a year with no Speech Team or Demon Invitational, it was wonderful to “be back.” Thanks are due to many for making this happen.

First, thank you, GSHS Administration, for your commitment to, once again, make Speech Team a reality. Without your support and encouragement, the team and the meet would not have existed.

Second, thank you, speech teamers, for sharing your time and talents. You fundraise, organize, and get up really early to compete. Your efforts are noticed and are clearly a huge part of building the team. You make our job joyful.

Third, thank you, GSHS Staff, for letting us use your classrooms, helping us stay organized, and for supporting the Speech Team as it rebuilds.

Fourth, thank you, community, for volunteering your Saturday to judge. Your comments and time commitment spoke volumes to all the students involved. They felt supported in their choice of Speech as an extra curricular activity. Your involvement helped the meet run on time which is no small task.

Finally, thank you, Speech Team parents, especially Carrie and Ken Melby, Debbie McKenna, Gayla Rowe, and Darlene Raymond, for all your hard work. You made soup, picked up enormous sandwiches, sold lunches, cleaned rooms, and kept us going when we were caught in the midst of the running of an invitational of this magnitude. You are the best !

Without all of you, our job would have been impossible. We cannot thank you enough.

Chapter AO of P.E.O would like to thank the ladies from Glenwood Springs and surrounding communities that supported our 17th Annual Elegant Auction and Luncheon held Dec. 4. Through your generosity we will be able to attain funds for the Girl Scout program “Girls are Great” – which is available to all Glenwood 5th grade girls – and provide several book scholarships to local graduating high school girls, and most especially to help the students in the CMC Women in Transition Program attain their educational goals. Thanks also to the Hotel Colorado for putting everyone in a festive mood with their beautiful holiday decorations and delicious meal. And on behalf of the nearly 100 winners of various door prizes, we especially want to thank the many local businesses that so generously provided them. Thanks to all for making this event successful. We look forward to hosting it again next year. See you then.

With gratitude,

Chapter AO, P.E.O.
