Readers Say Thanks
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
Your New Castle LIFT-UP food bank gives a very grateful thank you for all donations throughout the year and especially through the holidays just past. Students from Kathryn Senor Elementary and Elk Creek Elementary Schools with their teachers aides and parents brought over 500 cans and packages. The Girl Scouts, Cubs and Boy Scouts canvassed town with leaders and parents to pick up over 700 items on some very cold days.
Family Fitness Center and the Lions Club have worked hard. Many individuals drop off a few bags of food from time to time. We receive monetary donations that fill a very important need. We especially thank all the volunteers that put holiday bags together for 101 families. For Thanksgiving and again for Christmas each family received 14 items, plus fresh celery, potatoes and a certificate to purchase meat of their choice. Patti Shafner with Kyler Lundeen and the Coal Ridge High School students spent many hours preparing the Angel Tree, gathering and organizing 200 Angel Tree gifts. Thank you to these who chose names and returned gifts.
The library continues to accept food for us because it’s a handy drop off spot. We are hearing from individuals who want to volunteer their time with us. The New Castle community and its generous residents helped struggling people for the holiday and we continue to serve 25-35 families every month, year round.
We are open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the River Center on 4th Street for anyone who needs a little food assistance. We sincerely thank each and every person who helps in every way. May you all have a happy new year.

Economic times were tough last summer and the success of “Music in the Park” in New Castle was a perfect free family event enjoyed by all ages. I personally want to thank the sponsors of the event: Alpine Bank of New Castle, American Furniture, Chamber of Commerce of New Castle, Mr. T’s Hardware, Spirits of New Castle (downtown).
Also a special thank you to those businesses that donated items for the free door prizes – all the prizes were a big hit!
With the high demand of this event to continue again this summer, I will be asking for donations and prizes. Benefits for the money sponsors are as follows: Name on flyers, opportunity to hang a banner at each event and you will be able to set up a table to advertise your business at each event.
Please contact me about sponsorship information at 303-589-9460 or e-mail at Bj.DeHerrera@Q.com. Performers and dates have not yet been determined at this point.
