Readers Say Thanks
I want to send out a huge thank-you to everyone who signed my banner and cheered me on during the Olympics. Although my race did not end up how I wanted, it means so much to know that the whole valley was behind me the whole way.A special thanks should go out to Ham DuBois and Elyse Hutchinson for getting the banner made and getting so many people to sign it. Also to the kids in Kathryn Senor Elementary, thank you. I loved the pictures you guys sent me.Out of the 22 Alpine athletes in Vancouver I was the only one to receive such a cool gift. I think that says a lot about our area. Most of all I need to thank my father, Greg, and sister, Kendra; without you two I would never have made it. You two made it possible, thank you.Alice McKennisNew Castle

Thank you to Dylan Lewis, the Sunlight Mountain staff and Ski Patrol, all the volunteers and the sponsors for the Endurance Challenge on Sunday. It was a great local event that was organized very well. Many local volunteers were there all day (longer than the 12 hours of the race) to allow the racers to compete. Also, thank you to Sunlight Mountain for being very accommodating and friendly to uphill foot traffic on the ski area (both during and after lift operation hours). Please, all uphill users, be respectful of the guidelines for uphill traffic (especially no dogs at any time) so that we can enjoy this privilege for many years to come.Sincerely,Dave WeidemannGlenwood Springs
I confess. I’m part of a dying breed. I actually sit down at the kitchen table every morning to eat breakfast and read the paper. The actual newsprint paper. It’s my favorite part of the day. I have been a Post Independent subscriber since I moved here in October 2008, and I simply must say I love this publication. The local stories, events and people are a pleasure to follow. I’m especially pleased that the PI doesn’t feel the need to drown the front page in whatever media sensation is the hot topic of the day. If I want that, I’ll turn on CNN. And, most importantly, I must take this opportunity to extol the virtues of my delivery person, Kellen Casey. Kellen has rarely missed a day, makes his deliveries early, and really makes a concerted effort to get my paper on or near my porch (although the “roof landing” last month really cracked me up). I can’t emphasize enough how thoughtful that is. That extra effort really makes a difference. And did I mention that he’s a teenager? Impressive indeed. Kathryn PototskyGlenwood Springs
The family of Lee T. Kizer would like to say thank you for all of the prayers, words of comfort, cards, flowers, and donations made to E. Dene Moore Memorial Fund and the Rifle Senior Center in our father’s name. Thank you to the Rev. Dene Johnson for officiating and the use of the First Christian Church for the service and gathering place after. We would also like to give a special thanks to the Colorado National Honor Guard, the Rifle VWF, and the Patriot Guard Riders for their participation in our father’s service. A very special thank-you goes to Mike Norvell for playing taps for a special decorated World War II veteran’s final farewell.Kathi MasseyBismark, Ariz.
