My son and I want to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to so many of our friends and family who prayed for us, and supported and encouraged our family while we were deployed in Iraq this past year. It was comforting to know that 8,000 miles away my wife (my son’s mother), family and home were being cared for and protected. As things often go, a number of household items failed over the 15 months we were training and deployed, and so many people rallied around my family to make repairs and brace them up. This truly speaks loudly to the graciousness of our community and to the spirit of the American people. We counted it a privilege to serve and on our community’s behalf to further the cause of freedom and democracy in the Middle East.Though we could never fully express our gratitude for all that was done by so many individuals, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to these groups: New Hope Church, the Rifle Church of Christ, the city of Rifle employees, our neighborhood and our mechanic shop. With deepest gratitude,SSG Brian G. I wish to thank everyone for all the amazing love that touched my heart in the loss of my son, Scott. I loved him so much. I cannot express my gratitude for all of the prayers, cards, flowers, food and donations. Your love and support has been overwhelming.Thank you to all the friends and family that came together to show respect at Scott’s memorial. Thank you to the American Legion in Carbondale for allowing us to have it there. Thank you to Rob Goodwin for your comforting words – they meant so much. Thank you to all those who brought and served food: Rose, Anneh, Christina and Bryce Manzanares and others that helped. Thank you to Bob Gross for donating the meat, and to Mrs. Betsy Schenck for beautifully playing the piano. Thank you to Rocky Whitworth, Scott’s football coach in 1978, who shared stories and wonderful memories of Scott’s treasured football days. Thank you to all of you who spoke and shared your lasting memories of Scott. Thank you, Christy, for taking photos. I would like to say a special thank-you to my granddaughter Mariane and her mother, JoEllen, for making the wonderful DVD slide show of photos that played throughout the service. Thank you to anyone we may have missed.Sincerely,Glenna Lusk and family
The Gus Darien Ice Arena is officially closed for the season. Thanks to everyone who made it another great skating year. I would like to thank our ice maintenance man, Steve Groom, for all his time and effort in keeping the ice skateable for as long as possible. Thanks to our volunteer Youth Ice Hockey coaches: Tai Jacober, Carter Schlumberger, and Eric Brendlinger (he gets another round of thanks for his work on maintaining the ice as well). Thank you, Warming Hut staff, for renting skates, shoveling the snow and selling concessions: Crystal Beltz, Monique Rodriguez and Rebecca Wagner. If you have skates from the Warming Hut, please drop them by the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center. Thanks again!
