Readers Say Thanks
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado
It’s time to thank our school, community, coaches, families and friends for their unwavering support throughout our season and with our fundraising efforts.
Our varsity team closed the 2010 soccer season as the Western Slope 4A League champions with a 13-0-0 regular season record. Postseason ended with a first-round loss. The junior varsity team also delivered an impressive 11-2-1 season.
Our youth soccer clinic and community car wash/bake sale raised nearly $1,000 for teams. A special thanks to all who supported each of these fundraisers.
We want to thank our coaches – Bryan Stoltzfus, Heather Fox and Steve White – and athletic trainer Marni Barton for their time and wisdom. May we reflect the Glenwood Springs Demon team spirit and commitment to excellence in our achievements throughout the coming years.
With much gratitude,
2010 Demon girls soccer teams
Thank you for the miles of smiles at the Mother’s Day Mile 2010!
The village did it again! Together, as a fundraiser we raised more than $17,000 for the domestic and sexual violence programs of the Advocate Safehouse Project of Garfield County. As a friendraiser we honored more than 700 runners and walkers, more than 100 volunteers, and more than 100 spectators. Special congratulations go to the 75 overall and age group Mother’s Day Mile winners who enjoyed standing on the new podiums, winning awards made from the Imani Workshop in Eldoret, Kenya. Complete race results can be found at http://www.advocatesafehouse.org, and winner podium photos can be found at http://www.glenwoodmedical.com.
The Big Tent was buzzing this year as the Gift Basket Silent Auction boasted a banner year of gift basket donations and purchases. We never cease to be amazed by the generosity of our neighbors and businesses, especially in our troubled economic times. Thank you for your bigheartedness.
We are so appreciative of our local sponsors who year after year give us a vote of confidence with their generous financial and goodwill donations. Thank you to Glenwood Medical Associates for providing us the perfect venue both inside and out to hold our race and for their generous financial donations year after year. Special thanks go to Mark, Ian and Kim at U.S. Bank of Glenwood Springs for sponsoring our chip timing system and for coming on board as our newest sponsors. Thank you to the Richard and Marianne Reinisch Foundation, Valley View Hospital and Foundation, Somethin’ Sweet Candy Plus, Mona Lisa Boutique, The Flower Mart, Glenwood Springs Post Independent, The Hotel Denver, Garfield Energy Challenge, and Drs. Heim and Johnson DDS.
Part of the fun of our event is our opening ceremonies where this year Rachel Sobke, Jenna Sobke and Wyatt Israel sang two beautiful songs to the attentive crowd. We loved having Ron Milhorn and Sue Maisch as our race day announcers and know they added a new dimension to the day. Thank you for giving so much of yourselves on this special day.
A race as big and as complicated as the Mother’s Day Mile could not happen without the help of Rick Turner and his crew with the city of Glenwood Springs; the Glenwood Police Department; and the Glenwood Fire Department. Special thanks to our local Garfield County First Responders for keeping our staff and clients safe all year long.
Thank you to our amazing Mothers’ Day Mile staff, spouses, board of directors, race day volunteers, pie bakers, Glenwood Springs High School students, and the rest of the village, whose commitment to our event keeps our MDM Team coming back year after year.

We would like to thank the West Care Ambulance service volunteers; Valley View ER staff; Drs. Woerker, Oppegard and Tomasso; and CCU nurses and staff for their wonderful care to Jim recently. We so appreciate all of you!
