When the snow melts on the campus of Glenwood Springs High School later this year, some new scenery will be visible along Coach Miller Drive. The shot put area just beyond the northwest corner of the track has been completely renovated. This didn’t just “magically” happen under that blanket of white.A great deal of time, effort, volunteer work and money was involved in transforming the 15-year-old facility into a first-class event site. I would like to say thank you to all of the individuals and businesses that played a role in this project. The Glenwood Sunrise Rotary Club, Lafarge Concrete, Valley Lumber of Basalt, Roaring Fork Rentals, TayBen Trucking and the RFSD Maintenance Department were several of the groups that got involved. Individually, this project would not have been completed without the assistance of people like Sandy Lowell, Larry Thrun, Charlie Montover, Roger Brown, Nancy VanDevender, Fran Orosz, Duff Nicola, Chad Montover, Willy Pelland and the GSHS Track and Field coaching staff. We hope to add more features to the shot put area in the future – like irrigation, landscaping and spectator seating. With such a generous and involved community, this dream can soon be a reality. Thank you so much, and be sure to attend the 31st annual Demon Invitational on Saturday, April 16, 2011.Blake RisnerHead CoachGSHS Track & Field
