Register soon to vote in municipal elections

Voters have less than a week to register to vote in several upcoming municipal elections.

Carbondale, New Castle, Silt and Parachute each have a municipal election on Tuesday, April 6, and the deadline for voter registration in all of these towns is 5 p.m. on Monday, March 8.

Voters can register at their local town halls, at the Garfield County Clerk and Recorder’s office at the Garfield County Courthouse, or when renewing a driver’s license.

There are either town council or town board of trustee seats open in each of the four municipalities.

Carbondale voters will have the most choices this April, with five open seats on the town’s Board of Trustees and two ballot questions.

One ballot question will ask Carbondale voters whether an existing 0.5 percent sales tax dedicated to recreation should be renewed. Voters will also be asked to approve a $2.5 million bond issue to build recreational amenities in the town.

New Castle voters have three open seats to fill on that town’s council. Voters are also being asked to decide whether a 2.5 percent lodging tax should be passed.

Silt has three spots open on its town board and Parachute has four, but there are no ballot questions in those towns.
