Republicans presided over high unemployment, not Democrats

Dear Editor,

I don’t know which side of Mars Mike Spaniola was born on, but I know he has a truth level that is out of sight. He is highly partisan when he writes that during the two highest levels of unemployment, two Democratic presidents were in charge.

I was alive and suffered severely from both of their “good-for-the-economy supply-side economics” big spending sprees, plus tax cuts for the rich periods.

Republican Herbert Hoover was elected president in 1929 and served until 1933. During this period we almost had a jobless-based civil war. It is common knowledge that it was a Democrat called FDR that saved the country from this jobless depression. He was re-elected three times.

Ronald Reagan was elected president in 1981, and not James Carter. With his supply-side economics, big spending sprees and big tax cuts for the rich, he almost started another jobless-based civil war. He made me jobless and homeless at the time, along with many other millions. Mostly because of this, in my book he was the worst of the worst presidents.

The scary thing is that Bush is far ahead of them in spending and tax cuts. This is mostly the result of his “personal war” spending spree, plus big tax cuts for his very-richest-of the-rich friends. Has he ever known a poor person?

Thank you.

Paul Scott
