Rescue teams locate two hunters lost on Uncle Bob Mountain

Two New Castle hunters were lost and found early last week after losing their way on Uncle Bob Mountain, south of Silt.A woman called the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office 12:36 Thursday morning because she hadn’t heard from David West, 33, and Jesse Suggs, 18, since 6:30 the previous evening.Garfield County Search and Rescue started a search on roads north of New Castle Thursday morning. Later that afternoon, the rescue team contacted West by cell phone. They found him an hour later.West was airlifted to the bottom of the mountain and then taken to Grand Valley Hospital in Rifle.Friday morning the Garfield County Search and Rescue team, along with search and rescue teams from Mesa County, Eagle County and Rifle Fire District, found Suggs. A medical helicopter was called to transport Suggs to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.Further information about the condition of the men is unavailable.
