UPDATE: Colorado Highway 133 reopens following hazmat incident near Marble
UPDATE, 1:35 p.m.: Colorado Highway 133 and County Road 3 have reopened to alternating traffic following a hazmat incident that happened Friday morning.
The evacuation and stay-in-place orders are still in effect for residents near the Marble area, according to a Pitkin County alert. Residents of Evergreen Lane are still being ordered to evacuate the area.
Residents of Nub Street, Gulch way, Alpine Street and Aspen Street still need to shelter in place.
According to Carbondale Rural and Fire Protection District Division Public Information Officer Jenny Cutright, the hazmat incident was caused by a propane tank truck rollover around 11 a.m. Friday.
There was an active leak that was vaporizing from the vehicle, according to Colorado State Patrol. Cutright confirmed the vehicle did not crash into the Crystal River.
“It is not in the river,” she said. Instead, the vehicle is halfway down the hillside, up against a tree. “There is no immediate threat to any waterway.”
The driver of the vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
A Colorado State Patrol hazmat team is currently trying to mitigate the incident.
Length of this incident is unknown.
Please avoid the area if possible until the hazard has been removed, to ensure emergency responders can work safely and swiftly, according to CSP.
Cutright said hazmat crews will continue to clear the site for several hours Friday night. The vehicle will be pulled out from the scene Saturday morning.
