Garfield County is still where you will find most of the affordable housing in the Roaring Fork Valley as well as within our neighboring resort communities. As has been well publicized over the last month, 2006 was a record year in Garfield County with a total sales volume topping the one-billion dollar mark. Emphasizing what is available to sell at a reasonable price in our county is being consumed without hesitation. Across our neighboring resort communities 2006 ended in much the same manner. Eagle County once again reported the highest volume at $2.75 billion, the only county of our neighbors reporting a slight decline from 2005. They were followed closely by Pitkin County at $2.63 billion, then Routt and Summit Counties at $1.1 and $1.6 billion respectively. In comparison Routt County has just hit the billion dollar mark and ended 2006 just slightly above Garfield County. Our neighboring mountain communities continue to report much higher than average sales than the rest of the country, reporting 2006 averages as follows: Routt and Summit Counties in the mid to high $700’s, Eagle County at $1.1 million and Pitkin County $3.7 million. Garfield County ended the year reporting the average home sale at $391,585. The total dollar volume for year end for Garfield County reported $1,045,377,400 from 2,856 transactions.
