Revived search fails to find man missing from G.J. since July 30

A revived effort to find a missing and apparently suicidal Grand Junction man generated no significant developments Saturday, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

An 8-square-mile area was searched in the effort to find Robert Scott, 53, who disappeared July 30. The area is between Patterson Creek and Blair Creek, and Adams Lake to Spring Hill to Upper Canyon Creek.

Scott’s truck was found Aug. 12 at the trailhead to Jet Lake. Later in the week, between the truck and the lake, searchers found a bag with the same description as one reported missing from his home following his disappearance. The only thing found in the bag was a float tube of the kind used by fishermen on lakes.

The search of Scott was again suspended indefinitely after Saturday’s efforts.

Mesa County sheriff investigators believe Scott committed suicide, based on a note that was found at his home indicating he planned to do so.

Scott had been seen looking at a map of the Flat Tops prior to his disappearance, and liked to hunt in the Jet Lake area.

Joining in Saturday’s search were Garfield County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, and other search and rescue teams from Aspen, Vail, Routt County, El Paso County, Douglas County and Albany County, Wyo.
