Richard G. Westcott

Richard G. Westcott, of Old Snowmass, died of lung cancer Aug. 4, 2005, at the Glen Valley Care Center in Glenwood Springs. He was 54.

Richard was born Jan. 28, 1951, in Hackensack, N.J., to William and Flora Westcott. He grew up in River Edge, N.J., and graduated from River Dell High School in 1969.

In the early 1970s, Richard loaded his skiing equipment in the front seat and a dismantled Harley in the back of an ancient Ford and headed for Aspen to spend a year skiing and biking. He never left. He started out teaching skiing and doing some ski racing, and became an expert stone cutter and mason. He did high quality stone work in the Aspen, Snowmass and Basalt area.



He is survived by his brother, Bill Westcott, of River Edge, and a sister Beverly Fuqua, of Rand, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.



Cremation took place in Glenwood Springs. A memorial will be held in the Snowmass area.
