Richard J. Hess

Richard J. Hess of Glenwood Springs died Monday, March 29, 2004, at his home. He was 78.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 2, at the Farnum-Holt Funeral Chapel, 405 W. 7th St. in Glenwood Springs.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, at the same location. Burial will follow at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs.

Mr. Hess was born April 6, 1925, in the Bronx, N.Y.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Gertrude J. Birk on May 26, 1946, in Bronx, N.Y.

They lived in Norwalk, Conn., for 46 years, where Mr. Hess worked as a lithographer. They moved to Glenwood Springs 15 years ago.

Mr. Hess enjoyed skiing and golf, and during his golfing career he hit four holes-in-one.

Mr. Hess is survived by his wife, Gertrude J. Hess of Glenwood Springs; by a son, Robert S. Hess of Paso Robles, Calif.; by a daughter, Lynne H. Woodward of Pittsburgh; and by four grandchildren.

Farnum-Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
