Richard (Mel) Jowell, 94, passed away Jan. 28, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Silt.

Mel was born Nov. 11, 1913, in New Meadows, Idaho, to Jason and Sarah (Overhulls) Jowell.

He married Marie Evelyn Cook Jan. 28, 1944, in Price, Utah.

Mel first worked in the timber mills of western Colorado, then became a sheep rancher and spent many happy seasons ranching until he retired from Valley Farms in 1977. He loved his time in the wilderness with his sheep dogs and sheep.

He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife; children Arnold (Loli) Jowell of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Donald Jowell of Craig, Sally (Ed) Antonelli of Silt, and Stephanie (Marc) of Silt; grandchildren Eddy, Melanie, Daniel, Camron, Nathaniel, Mackenzie, Elisia, Sheena, Brandon, Yancy, Serena and Claudia; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mel was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Cremation has taken place and memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Rifle Funeral Home.
