Richard Robert Sommers

Richard Robert Sommers of Rifle died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Grand River Hospital in Rifle. He was 48.

He was born Jan. 19, 1955, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, to Elfie Elfriede Berghold and William Charles Sommers.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.



Mr. Sommers married Lynne Nutter on June 5, 1982, at 29 Palms, Calif.

They lived in Pueblo, and moved to Rifle in 1994.



Mr. Sommers worked as the retail manager for Radio Shack in the Glenwood Springs Mall.

He was a member of the V.F.W. of Earp, Calif., and the United Guild of Dark Ages of Camelot.

He loved fishing, golf and bowling, and most of all he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elfie Metz; by a sister, Patricia Sommers; and by a brother, Donald Metz.

Mr. Sommers is survived by his wife, Lynne Sommers of Rifle; by his father, Barney Metz of Colorado Springs; by a son, Richard C. Sommers of Rifle; by daughters Tracey Sommers of Rifle and Jennifer Sommers of California; by a brother and sister-in-law, Barney and Denise Metz of Lewiston, Idaho; by sisters and brothers-in-law Jeanne and Leroy Cross of Broomfield, and Monika and John Shinaut of Littleton; and by special friends Aaron Taylor and Chad LaFrenz, both of Silt.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Sept. 13, at Farnum Holt Funeral Chapel, 405 W. 7th St. in Glenwood Springs, with friends and family officiating.

Following the service, there was a potluck dinner for family and friends at the Glenwood Springs Mall community room.
