Rick Chavez withdraws from Re-1 school board race
GLENWOOD SPRINGS – One fewer candidate is running for a seat on the Roaring Fork School District Re-1 board of education election on Nov. 4. Glenwood resident Rick Chavez, who submitted a petition to run for the director of District C (Glenwood Springs area), has officially withdrawn from the election. Currently, Bruce Wampler serves as District C’s director. Now that Chavez has withdrawn from the race, Wampler is running against just one other candidate, Robert Arrington. All five seats on the Re-1 school board are up in the Nov. 4 election. Nine candidates are competing for four of the seats, while incumbent appointee Peter Delany is running unopposed.Chavez, who was unavailable for comment, sent an e-mail informing Re-1 public information officer Suzie Romig that he had just accepted a new assignment at work, which will cause him to be traveling out of the country more than he originally planned, and that he wouldn’t have the time to commit to the school board.Chavez is a consultant with Stancil & Co., an oil and gas, petrochemicals and electrical power industries consulting firm with its headquarters in Irving, Texas. Prior to joining Stancil & Co. in 2000, Chavez worked for Williams Refining. He has a degree in chemical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
