Ride the Rockies arrives in Glenwood

Staff Report
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. ” They’re here.

Two thousand bicyclists descended on Glenwood Springs today as part of Ride the Rockies, a 422-mile, seven-day bike tour.

The cyclists rode a 36-mile route from Rifle and up past Harvey Gap on the way to Glenwood Springs, also safely getting past the thousand-acre wildfire that has been threatening Canyon Creek. The fire had forced the closure of Highway 6 in the Canyon Creek area earlier in the week, causing concern for ride organizers that it could affect their planned route.

The cyclists’ relatively short ride today has left them time to check out the Hot Springs Pool, tonight’s Summer of Jazz concert and other attractions in the tourist town of Glenwood Springs. Riders head to Aspen on Thursday.
