Rifle 6th at Booth memorial tourney
Dropping a tightly contested showdown with Palisade on Saturday, Rifle High School’s summer club baseball squad wrapped up a sixth-place finish at the past weekend’s Austin Booth Memorial Wood Bat Tournament.
Rifle dropped its home tournament finale, 2-1, at the Deerfield Park complex. The game was a battle for fifth place.
Alex Rascon, a recent Roaring Fork High School grad, played with Rifle on Saturday. He pitched, surrendering just two runs in seven innings of work. Triston Quigley had an RBI double to tie the game up in the fifth inning.
Palisade pitchers finished with 13 strikeouts.
Rifle pieced together a 1-3 record for the tourney, scoring just a 6-3 win over Summit on Thursday.
Lakewood won the tournament, which is named for a Rifle High School student-athlete who died in January after a bout with the flu.

The Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge experienced vandalism in the form of significant water damage after a man removed a pipe valve with a fire extinguisher flooding four hallways. The lodge however remains open and operational.
