Rifle boasts nine candidates for City Council

RIFLE, Colorado – If you haven’t sent in your mail-in ballot for Rifle’s municipal election, you might want to do so. All ballots must be at Rifle City Hall by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Rifle residents will vote on two ballot questions. One asks whether voting districts should be formed so that, aside from the at-large candidates, citizens would vote on a candidate from their district. The second ballot question asks whether Rifle City Council members should be limited to a two four-year terms.
Nine candidates are also vying for four open council seats with three incumbent council members running and six new candidates.
The following is information on the candidates, listed in alphabetical order:

• Ron Byrd
Age: 36
Occupation: Heating and air conditioning contractor
Years in Rifle: On and off between 1985 and 1993 and now since 1999.
Previous public service experience: None
• Alan Lambert
Age: 48
Occupation: Rifle business owner
Years in Rifle: 12
Previous public service experience: Eight years on Rifle City Council, the last four as mayor pro tem; Rifle Planning and Zoning Commission; Garfield County Energy Advisory Board; Rifle Area Chamber of Commerce; and a variety of city and community committees.
• Keith Lambert
Age: 60
Occupation: Retired educator
Years in Rifle: 28
Previous public service experience: Mayor of Rifle for the past eight years; Rifle Planning and Zoning Commission; state Climate Control Action panel; state Workforce Development Council; Colorado Municipal League Energy Commission; Rifle Fire Protection District; Rifle Metropolitan Park District; Western Garfield Education Association.
