Rifle boys, girls win at Steamboat Shoot-Out

Rifle’s boys basketball team bounced back from a Thursday loss with a 54-37 win over Green River (Wyo.) at the Steamboat Shoot-Out on Friday.

The Bears will play for fifth place today at 10:45 a.m. against Fruita Monument.

On Thursday, Rifle lost to Montrose, 49-44.

Rifle’s girls prevailed in a defensive affair against Discovery Canyon at the Steamboat Shoot-Out on Friday, 23-18.

The Bears held Discovery Canyon scoreless in the second quarter, and the teams entered halftime tied at 5.

On Thursday, D’Evelyn came out firing in a 64-32 win over Rifle.

Chante Church led the Bears with 11 points. Joey Kuheim chipped in with 10.

Rifle will play in today’s fifth-place game against Montrose at 10:45 a.m.

Grand Valley’s boys lost to host Paonia on Friday, 53-50.

Wyatt Hurst led the Cardinals (0-3) with 21 points. Ben Coleman chipped in with 13.

Grand Valley’s girls opened the Tiger Tip-Off Tournament at Holy Family with a 63-38 loss to Valley on Thursday.

A score from Friday’s game against Alamosa was not available at press time.
