Rifle City Council passes fire, fireworks ban

RIFLE – Rifle City Council passed Ordinance 22 with amendments at Monday night’s city council meeting, prohibiting certain open-burning fires in the city of Rifle according to the Rifle Fire Protection District.The ordinance also prohibits open-burning fires and the use and possession of all fireworks in Rifle Mountain Park. Fires will only be allowed within full-contained grated fire pits in designated campgrounds or on private lands.City council also passed an ordinance stating that all fireworks will be prohibited in the city beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 6. Chainsaw use is limited to saws equipped with a United States Department of Agriculture approved spark arresting device, the operator must have at least an eight ounce fire extinguisher nearby and a size-zero or larger specific, round pointed shovel with an overall length of 36 inches, according to the RFPD.Acetylene or other torches with open flames are prohibited except within an area that is barren or cleared of flammable material by a 10 foot radius.Garfield County and the Bureau of Land Management already has fire bans in place on all county and federal lands.
