RIFLE ” A workplace disagreement between a city employee and his supervisor led to a physical fight at Rifle’s wastewater treatment plant.

City manager John Hier said Gregory Colter and Dan McCue were both terminated by their supervisor. He declined to give their previous job titles or provide more information because it’s a personnel issue.

On the afternoon of Jan. 24, Rifle police responded to the wastewater treatment plant near the intersection of highways 6 and 13. Police issued Colter a summons for disorderly conduct and menacing. McCue was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Police Chief Daryl Meisner said, “The bottom line is it was a disagreement in the workplace and we were brought into it because there was some physical contact and a physical altercation.”

Colter was McCue’s supervisor, and neither man sustained any real injuries, Meisner said. He declined to say what the argument was about or to share further details.

Mayor Keith Lambert and city utilities director Charlie Stevens both said they couldn’t discuss the matter because it’s a personnel issue.

The Rifle county court office said it did not have the case, and a message left at the

Rifle Municipal Court Wednesday afternoon wasn’t returned by the evening. McCue didn’t have a listing in the phone book. A message left at Colter’s home wasn’t immediately returned.
