Rifle girls lose heartbreaker to Paonia
Rifle’s girls basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Paonia on Tuesday night, 41-39.
The Eagles’ Carson Pipher lofted a game-winning shot as time expired to give Paonia (12-3, 6-0 2A WSL) the win. Moments earlier, Rifle’s Taylor Walters knocked in a 3-pointer to tie the game at 39, only to be outdone by Pipher’s heroics.
“For a 2A team they are very good,” said Bears coach Rick Schmitz. “They are just really a solid team.”
Joey Kuheim led Rifle with 13 points and Chante Church added 11 for the Bears, who dropped to 9-6, 7-3 4A WSL.
Rifle next travels to Summit on Friday before hosting Eagle on Saturday.
