PALISADE, Colorado – Ciara Euler’s 19 points helped Rifle’s girls basketball team polish off a perfect 4A Western Slope League season with a 57-40 win at Palisade on Thursday.

The Bears, who also got 15 points from Nichole Karr and 13 from Cortney Cordova, finished up their regular season with a 14-0 record in league and an overall mark of 18-4.

“How much can you really say other than good job?” Rifle coach Stephanie Heald said of her team’s feat. “It was an amazing season for us to have.”

Three of Bears’ four losses came against Class 5A schools. Montrose is the only 4A school to beat Rifle this season.

Next up for the Bears is the 4A state playoffs. The Colorado High School Activities Association will release the 48-team state tournament bracket on Sunday.

Rifle’s boys weren’t as fortunate on Thursday, falling behind early in what would finish as a 66-47 defeat at Palisade.

Tyler Rust scored 18 points to lead the Bears, who wrapped their season at 9-13 overall. Dustin Ross added 16 points.

“It started ugly and we never could recover,” Rifle coach Chris Lowther relayed.
