Rifle High School closes for day

Amanda Holt Miller

Rifle High School is closed today because 300 students from northern Colorado have come to fill the building’s halls with music. The Northwestern-1 District, which includes Rifle schools and those located in the northern part of Colorado’s Western Slope, is holding a solo and ensemble competition today. The ensemble needed nine classrooms for its competition.”We can’t have school at the same time with that many students coming from other schools,” said Daryl Gingrich, the choir director at Rifle High School. The musical day means that Rifle High School students will receive an extra day of vacation to tack onto Presidents Day weekend. However, teachers will still report to school for a teacher work day. Twenty middle and high school students from Re-2 will compete from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The event is open to the public.
