Rifle police look into attempted arsons

Post Independent Writer

The Rifle Police Department is investigating two attempted arson cases this month. In the first case, Feb. 6, lamp oil was splashed near the front door of a house on West 28 Court in north Rifle. Police found evidence of an attempted fire, said police chief Daryl Meisner. The second case occurred Feb. 18, about a block away from the first. This time, however, the flammable substance was unknown and was splashed around the back of the house, Meisner said. Police are investigating both incidents and looking for commonalties, but “leads are very minimal,” Meisner said.Still, the cases might be solved. “Somebody in the community is going to see or hear something that tells us where to go,” he said. A suspect arrested in either case will face attempted arson charges, Meisner said. If you have information on the case, call 625-2331.
