Rifle Police Report
Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
Assault: Police were called to the 300 block of West Fifth Street at 7:50 p.m. on Aug. 22 on a report of two kids assaulting another kid. An 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl were cited for assault.
Driving under restraint: Officers stopped a motorist on Highway 13 near Lions Park at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 for driving without the vehicle’s headlights on. The driver, Sandra Mendoza, 32, of Rifle, was arrested on suspicion of driving under restraint and driving without proof of insurance.
Stolen vehicle: Police recovered a stolen vehicle at West Third and Fravert Avenue at 11 p.m. on Aug. 23.

Warrant arrest: Officers stopped a motorist in the 100 block of East 18th Street at 6:49 p.m. on Aug. 24 for running a stop sign. The driver, Monique Leticia Contreras, 29, of Rifle, was found to be wanted on a Garfield County warrant for failure to comply. She was issued a warning for the stop sign violation and arrested on the warrant.
Driving without valid license: Officers stopped a motorist for speeding in the 200 block of East 30th Street at 2 p.m. on Aug. 25. The driver, Dustin Jensen, 27, of Rifle was arrested on suspicion of failing to obtain a Colorado driver’s license within 30 days after moving to the state.
Vicious dog: Police were called to a dog bite incident in the 1500 block of East 12th Street at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25. Officers captured the dog and later ticketed the owner, Christopher Vashus, 47, of Rifle, for allowing a dog to run loose, failure to have his dog vaccinated and harboring a vicious animal.
Driving under the influence: Officers stopped a motorist for driving without the vehicle’s headlights on at 12:54 a.m. on Aug. 26 at East First and Whiteriver Avenue. Scottie Lee Degrote, 18, of Glenwood Springs was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving a vehicle with plates that had expired in 2005. The car was impounded.
Driving under the influence: Officers stopped a motorist for not using a turn signal at East Fifth and Munro Avenue at 2 a.m. on Aug. 26. The driver, Roberto Vega-Aguilar, 28, of Rifle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving without proof of insurance and failing to use a turn signal.
Warrant arrest: Officers contacted a woman wanted on a warrant in the 2400 block of Howard Avenue at 1 p.m. on Aug. 26. Neicole Britton, 29, of Rifle was arrested on the warrant.
Driving under the influence: Officers stopped a motorist for a traffic violation. The driver, Russell Jerry Hoswell, 34, of Rifle was arrested for an outstanding warrant and on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Driving under the influence: Officers stopped a motorist in the 400 block of Railroad Avenue at 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 27. The driver, Charles Lee Disney, 50, of Rifle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving with a license revoked for habitual traffic offenses.
Warrant arrest: Officers stopped a motorist for driving with the headlights off at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 near Lions Parks. Jamie Lynn Rials, 26, of Rifle was arrested on a municipal court warrant.
