Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Vandalism: Officers are investigating the slashing of vehicle tires in the 400 block of Railroad Avenue. The incident was reported at 1 a.m. on May 7.

Driving under the influence: Officers stopped Marie Alvarita Landa-Barragan, 35, of Rifle in the 800 block of Railroad Avenue at 2:30 a.m. on May 7. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving with an open container of alcohol, and careless driving.

False reporting: Officers received a report of a hit and run accident at the Kum and Go store on East 1st Street at 9 a.m. on May 7. A Rifle woman reported that another driver hit her car in the parking lot. A review of the surveillance camera for the store revealed no crash had occurred. The woman later admitted that she was covering for a relative who was driving at the time the car was damaged. Officers cited Gloria Amaya, 21, of Rifle for making false statements to authorities, and cited Veronica Alvarez, 19, of Rifle for failing to report an accident and for failing to obtain a Colorado driver’s license within 30 days after moving to the state.

Driving under the influence: Officers were called to the intersection of Railroad Avenue and 5th Street at 12:40 a.m. on May 8 on a report of a driver slumped over in a running vehicle. Officers awakened Abie Montoya, 43, of Rifle and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving with an open container and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Menacing: Officers were called to a parking lot in the 2700 block of Acacia Avenue at 10 p.m. on May 8 on a report of gunshots. They arrested James Lingenfelter, 48, of Rifle on suspicion of reckless discharge of a firearm and felony menacing.

Warrant arrest: Officers stopped Chelsey Barikan, 19, of Rifle for a defective head light at 10:20 p.m. on May 9 in the 100 block of 26th Street. She was arrested on two outstanding warrants.

Assault: Officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 2400 block of Ute Avenue at 11:40 p.m. on May 9. They arrested Peter Strickland, 37, and Rosa Padron, 28, both of Rifle on suspicion of assault, child abuse and domestic violence.
