Rifle Police Report

Editor’s note: The Rifle Police Department reports the following incidents and arrests. Summonses or arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Stolen vehicle: At 6:24 p.m. on Jan. 5, police took a report of a vehicle that was stolen from the 3000 block of Baron Lane. The case is under investigation.

Warrant arrest: At 3:46 p.m. on Jan. 8, police arrested Martin Stacy Pettyjohn, 49, of Rifle, in the 400 block West Second Street for an outstanding warrant.



Burglary: Police responded to a burglary call at 9:41 p.m. on Jan. 8 in the 400 block of West 27th Street. Multiple items were stolen. The case is under investigation.

Vehicle break-in: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief at 8:01 a.m. on Jan. 9 in the 1500 block of Enterprise Court. A vehicle’s window had been broken, and the vehicle was entered.



Burglary: Police were advised of a burglary in the 2100 block of Airport Road at 10:46 a.m. on Jan. 9. Several items were stolen and electric and phone service had been disconnected to the building. The case is under investigation.

Theft: At 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 9, police investigated a home break-in in the 2800 block of East Avenue. Several items were stolen from the residence. The case is under investigation.

Domestic violence: Police responded to a disturbance in the 2600 block of Acacia Avenue at 3:10 p.m. on Jan. 10. After investigation, officers arrested Harley Davidson Shroyer, 28, of Rifle, for domestic violence and obstruction of telephone services. Shroyer was taken to the Garfield County Jail.

Theft: Police were dispatched to Wal-Mart for a report of theft at 10:42 p.m. on Jan. 10. Adrian Hermosillo-Gutierres, 20, of Glenwood Springs, was issued a summons for theft.

Warrant arrest: At 3:53 p.m. on Jan. 11, Jesse Coszalter, 22, of Rifle, came to the Rifle Police Department for an unrelated matter, and it was discovered that he had an active warrant. Coszalter was arrested and taken to the Garfield County Jail.

Warrant arrest, possession: Police contacted a man for motorist assistance at 9:35 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the 600 block of Munro Avenue. Jeremiah Edwin Krantwashl, 22, of Rifle, was found to have an active warrant and was in possession of marijuana. Krantwashl was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and held for bond on the warrant at the Garfield County Jail.

Burglary, criminal mischief: Police were dispatched to a suspicious incident at 10:35 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the 2000 block of Acacia Avenue, in which the resident believed somebody was in the residence. Officers arrived and did not find an intruder. The case is under investigation.

Noise violation, assault: Police were notified of an assault at 12:35 a.m. on Jan. 12 in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue. The reporting person was not cooperative with dispatchers. David Richard Knowles, 49, of De Beque was subsequently arrested and transported to Garfield County Jail.

Warrant arrest: Police were advised of a man with active warrants at 3:11 p.m. on Jan. 12 in the 400 block of Railroad Avenue. Brandon D. Jensen, 25, of Rifle, was located, arrested and transported to Garfield County Jail.

Driving under restraint: Police made a traffic stop at 3:14 p.m. on Jan. 13 in the 100 block of West Third Street. Steven Mark Bentz, 48, of Rifle, was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under restraint, twice failing to use his turn signal, and failing to stop.

Criminal mischief: Police were dispatched to a criminal mischief report at 10:54 a.m. on Jan. 14 in the 1100 block of West 24th Street. Upon arrival, officers found that a vehicle had been vandalized with eggs and other substances.

Theft: Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of East Avenue at 11:06 a.m. on Jan. 14 for a report of a burglary. A garage had been broken into and items stolen. The case is under investigation.

Burglary: Police responded to a report of a burglary at 2:11 p.m. on Jan. 14 in the 300 block of East Avenue, in which items were reported missing from a residence.

Driving under the influence: At 2:46 p.m. on Jan. 14, police contacted Maria Cecilia Ford, 53, of Parachute, in response to a REDDI report. Ford was arrested for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Garfield County Jail.

Warrant arrest: While investigating a separate matter in the 300 block of East Avenue at 3:03 p.m. on Jan. 14, police contacted Devon Faye-Jean Johnson, 21, of Rifle. Johnson was found to have an active warrant and was arrested and transported to Garfield County Jail.

Kidnapping, menacing, assault: Police were dispatched to the 900 block of Wamsley Way at 6:19 p.m. on Jan. 14 for a report of a disturbance in progress. After a brief foot pursuit, officers arrested Thomas Edward Norberg, 35, of Rifle, for assault, kidnapping and menacing. Norberg was taken to the Garfield County Jail.

Indecent exposure: Police were called to a suspicious event in the 500 block of Jarrad Avenue at 9:39 p.m. on Jan. 14. Police contacted a male and a female walking in the area. Witnesses reported that the two were seen engaged in sexual activities in a yard. Cherie Olson, 39, of Rifle, was charged with indecent exposure and was released from the scene.
