Rifle woman killed in I-70 crash

A 41-year-old Rifle woman was killed when she was ejected from her car in an accident Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 70 near Silt.

The Colorado State Patrol on Thursday identified her as Melanie Jean Leilani Baumert.

Baumert, who was not wearing a seat belt, lost control of her white Volvo around 4:10 p.m. near milepost 96 westbound, the patrol said. The car went into the median and rolled three times. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A 7-year-old passenger, who was restrained, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later released.

Alcohol or other drugs are not suspected, and the cause of the crash was under investigation.
